Is Michael Phelps the most famous person ever?

To continue a bit with the work we’re doing with Legacy Direct, I’ve been playing with the Google Insights tool to try to gauge levels of fame. Here’s a good one: Michael Phelps vs. Barack Obama vs. Peyton Manning vs. God.

Figuring that Barack Obama is one of the more famous people in the world, Peyton Manning is one of the more famous athletes and God is God, it’s interesting to see just how Phelps completely scores off the scale in comparison after these Olympics.

He obviously can’t keep up the pace, though by the Legacy Score, he’s currently better established than Peyton Manning, which is remarkable. It will be interesting to see how much the search tails off after the Olympics and once America becomes more focused on the presidential race and football. In a strictly business and marketing sense, Michael Phelps is extremely well established and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him continue to score well above average, especially as he capitalizes on his performance with appearances at the White House and ticker tape parades and the whole nine yards.

In related news, Darren Rovell wrote up a nice post about us. Always nice to be noticed! Rovell explains a bit more about some of the other comparisons we’ve been doing, and is covering Phelps from a business angle very well, so it’s definitely worth a read if you haven’t seen it yet.
